Aid received

The global economy has become more integrated. Countries are exchanging more goods and services, and international financial flows have increased. But even in an expanding world economy, many countries cannot finance their own development. Aid helps to fill the gap.

The provision of aid may take many forms – it may provide direct debt relief, it may give technical expertise or humanitarian assistance in times of disaster or it may provide finance for long-term development. In all cases the aim is for donor countries to help recipient countries build the capacity for change and for recipient countries to invest in their people and create an environment that sustains growth.

Donors

Donors The poorest countries do not necessarily receive the most aid per capita. Some aid may be due to strategic concerns of donor governments rather than a commitment to assist development in poorer regions.
