Russia

The Russia (Russia) comprises the huge Northern Asia sub region of Asia and a smaller area which lies in Europe to the west of the Ural Mountain. It is easily the largest country in the world – almost twice the size of Canada. It stretches almost half way around the globe and has borders with fourteen different countries. The northern and eastern parts of the country are sparsely populated in contrast to the densely populated western region.

Most of Russia consists of vast stretches of plains that are predominantly steppe to the south and heavily forested to the north, with tundra along the northern coast. The Altai Mountains are found along its southern boundaries and the highest point in Europe, Mount Elbrus is found in the Caucasus Mountain range in the southwest. Russia has thousands of rivers and some of the most prominent water bodies in Asia. Lake Baikal, is the world's deepest, purest, oldest and most extensive fresh water lake. A humid continental climate dominates most of the region however in Northern European Russia and Siberia the climate is sub-arctic. There are two distinct seasons, summer and winter, with brief periods of spring and autumn between.

Russia has vast natural resources and is one of the top ten highest economies in the world.
