Communicable diseases such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria kill millions of people each year. They exact a terrible toll on society and the economy of developing countries.

Although international awareness and funding to fight epidemic diseases have increased, much remains to be done. Immunisation is a proven way of combating life-threatening infectious disease and it is estimated that it prevents over 2 million deaths a year.
