Primary school enrolment

Education prepares children to participate in society and to find a place in the world of work. School enrolment rates are rising, but many children still grow up without access to a basic education.

There are many reasons why children do not get even a primary education. Schools may be inaccessible or of poor quality, parents may keep children at home because of high school costs or there may be demands for children’s labour and their income.

Ensuring that these factors are overcome and that all children receive a good quality education is the foundation of sustainable development and poverty alleviation.
