Hemispheres

The equator divides the earth into two halves. The northern half, north of the equator is the Northern Hemisphere. The southern half, south of the equator is the Southern Hemishpere.

The Greenwich Meridian and the International Date Line can also be used to divide the world into two halves. The half to the west of the Greenwich Meridian is the Western Hemisphere. The half to the east of the Greenwich Meridian is the Eastern Hemisphere.
